Art Classes do Cork

On Wednesday 28th November 5th & 6th year students traveled to Cork to visit the Crawford art gallery, to view exhibitions that will aid them during the Leaving Cert Art History exam and meet with tutors and students in Crawford art college. Thanks to Ms O'Lomasney for great shots of their trip.

At the Crawford Gallery

At the Cork Crawford Gallery students saw the Greco-Roman Sculpture Casts made circa 1816 by Canova from originals in the Vatican Museum. These are the only ones in Ireland. They also saw paintings from Samuel Forde, Nathaniel Grogan, Jack B.Yeats, Evie Hone, Mainie Jellet.

They visited the Lavitt Gallery which holds a lot of Irish ceramic artists work. As the group are working with ceramics at present they got a hands on experience of the ceramic works in a gallery space, then they got to experience a ceramic workshop in the Crawford art college and also got to speak with printmaking tutors and students in their own working studio spaces.

When Art meets Science..

JSS Music Recital, 10th December

Úna Ní Chanainn presented a magical recital for John Scottus parents on the 10th of December in the refreshment room of Northumberland Road. This is a slideshow to give you an idea of the range of talent and interest our small school contains. Children from both Secondary and Primary schools played their pieces beautifully and with confidence. We were treated to performances of the TWO JSS string quartets and a cello quintet in addition to individual pieces. We even had a double bass & cello piece performed for us.
